How To Be A Street Soldier

Marching forward, fighting battles, together. Not, the violent ones created by the global war machines, but the personal battle for daily survival. And how you choose to fight those battles depends on your attitude. I tend to do it with a smile (most days). That’s just the kind of soldier I am.  - TMNK

Creative Army of Hope and Humanity: Represent!

It seems I never know where the “Art Is My Weapon” t-shirts or bandannas  will turn up, or who will be spotted wearing one. It’s my hope that the message is clear to all.  I, and the legion of “nobodys” who have been a part of our movement, or sport our gear, advocate  using creative expression, ART, as a force against hatred, bigotry, and ignorance. This artist deplores violence, and believes that the collective creativity of like minds can make a positive difference in the world. PEACE -

Wanna represent - Send us shots, oooops, Pixs of you wearing your ART IS MY WEAPON gear! - TMNK

HE(ART) FAILURE - Please Help Me Paint a Better Picture

I received an email from a young man, I’ve yet to answer. His praise of ME and my art left me feeling disappointed. I was disappointed not with him, but myself and my message. Please help me paint a better picture.

I have become a modern day chicken little, screaming that “They Sky Is Falling” warning of the impending doom we face if we don’t embrace and nurture the young people in our community, and of communities that aren’t ours. But is anyone really listening? Did I really believe I could have an impact on the senseless violence and murders happening  around me. I turn on the evening news, and every night more sickening bloodshed. It seems like nothing has changed. Please! Help me paint a better picture.

I had hoped to hear stories of others reaching out to mentor/help someone in their hood, or of entrepreneurs showing their “legal” hustle to young brothas and sisters, so that they would begin to see a future that didn’t include hangin’ and slang’n. I wanted to see and hear of corporate exec types, going back to their old neighborhoods and showing young brothas and sisters their world, of fine dining, galleries and shopping. I had hoped that I might encourage someone to finish their education, so as to have a more secure future than a “nobody” like me (ARE YOU LISTENING MALCOLM?) Somebody, PLEASE help me paint a better picture.

Because if all I did is paint a few paintings, get some gallery shows, and a bunch of attention - I failed. If I’ve somehow encouraged young people to make the same dumb mistakes I’ve made, I’ve failed. So to the young man who wrote me an email, having recently become a graphic artist, I APPLAUD YOU! Now continue to excel, make and SAVE your money, and share your Knowledge with a shorty from the block that reminds you of yourself. Help him (or her) avoid some of the costly mistakes you’ve made.

1 More thing, The cats you mentioned in your email are BIG, they blazed a path. I’m honored by your praise, but let’s keep it real, I’m NOBODY, be better than me. Get up (and stay up) economically, then help someone else do the same. PLEASE, HELP ME PAINT A BETTER PICTURE. If you and others do this, then I WILL have accomplished something that I can be proud of. Ya dig? - TMNK

Gun Control: A creative solution

Although, I don’t know how original (saw this sculpture at UN) or effective, but certainly a creative and provocative T-shirt from artist Jeff Lutz.

I’m against violence and guns, but perhaps this might be a solution for the idiots that just can’t say no to killing others. Your thoughts?
